My ISA Journey: Building Global Connections in Automation
Discovering ISA’s Global Community
While searching for a Physics book last month, I discovered an old ISA Intech magazine from 2014. Reading the articles inspired me, though I initially doubted my qualifications for publication. However, when ISA invited members to share their stories, I decided to contribute my automation journey.
Establishing Professional Foundations
I joined ISA in 2008, the same year I founded my system integration company. A decade later, ISA recognized me as a Senior Member. During this period, I served on the ISA El Salvador Section board while maintaining a local focus. The pandemic unexpectedly changed my perspective by introducing me to ISA’s international scope.
Expanding International Horizons
The ISA IIoT and Smart Manufacturing Virtual Conference in Brazil revealed ISA’s global presence. This virtual event demonstrated that ISA transcends national boundaries. Consequently, my leadership vision expanded beyond El Salvador’s borders.
Leadership Growth and Global Recognition
In 2021, I became ISA El Salvador Section President and began seeking international collaboration. After posting about International Automation Professional Day on LinkedIn, ISA featured my photo in their official gallery. This recognition confirmed that every professional can contribute to the global automation community.
Advancing to District Leadership
In 2023, I received a pivotal phone call from the ISA Latin America Nominator. He invited me to volunteer as the next District Chair Elect. After accepting the nomination, members elected me to this regional leadership position.
International Experiences and Family Inclusion
My first in-person District Leadership Conference occurred in Cartagena, Colombia, during 2024. This event provided valuable learning opportunities and connections with members from multiple countries. Significantly, I shared this experience with my family during our first international trip together.
Global Networking and Cybersecurity Focus
This year, I attended my first in-person international ISA event: the OT Cybersecurity Summit in Brussels. The technical presentations impressed me deeply. Now I plan to complete all four certificates and achieve the ISA/IEC 62443 Cybersecurity Expert certification.
Inspiring Future Automation Leaders
My story demonstrates that automation ultimately depends on people. If my experience encourages one member to pursue international ISA involvement, I will have contributed to our organization’s vision: creating a better world through automation.
