My ISA Journey: From Shrimp Boil Guest to Section President
Unexpected Beginnings at a Shrimp Boil
My ISA journey started unexpectedly in 2022. I attended the Wilmington Section’s annual Shrimp Boil as an ACE representative. That evening introduced me to section leaders and sparked my interest in ISA. The event became the starting point for my leadership path.
Rapid Advancement to Leadership Roles
Shortly after the Shrimp Boil, I joined the executive board as Membership Chair. For two years, I focused on member engagement and community building. This experience prepared me for greater responsibilities within the section.

National Exposure and Inspiration
The 2023 Automation Leadership Conference in Colorado Springs marked a turning point. This event exposed me to ISA’s national scope. Technical sessions and volunteer workshops provided fresh ideas for our section. Additionally, I reconnected with industry colleagues and expanded my professional network.
Expanding Responsibilities and Impact
In 2024, I transitioned to Program Chair, managing meeting planning and speaker coordination. I also helped organize the Shrimp Boil that originally introduced me to ISA. This full-circle moment highlighted how the event unites our automation community annually.
Stepping Up to Presidential Leadership
When our section president relocated, I accepted the Secretary/President-Elect position. Initially nervous, I recognized the importance of maintaining section continuity. I will assume the presidency in summer 2026, continuing our section’s growth trajectory.
Building a Diverse Leadership Team
Our section’s young, energetic board represents positive change in automation. With three women in leadership roles, we’re breaking industry norms. Furthermore, our strengthened University of Delaware connections are attracting student members and fresh perspectives.
The Value of Professional Community
ISA uniquely combines my professional automation work with community engagement. The organization develops industry standards I use daily. Simultaneously, it provides personal growth opportunities and ways to contribute to our field.
